Complications During Pregnancy
Pregnancy is such a joyous time that we often tend to forget or ignore the complications that we may face later. Pregnancy Complications may harm the health of the mother as well as the baby and it should not be overlooked even if you feel you don’t have any. It would be wise to know about the problems and complications that might occur during your pregnancy.
A majority of women have gone or are going through normal, uncomplicated pregnancies and deliveries. However, we all can’t escape health problems and being oblivious to it is also not a good idea. Some complications are severe while some are not that risky. Some of the common complications or unusual Pregnancy Symptoms are given below:
- Bleeding: Bleeding during pregnancy can be a sign of trouble, especially if it happens during an early stage. Though some women have also reported that they had had their monthly period while being pregnant. Bleeding at a later stage like during the ninth period can signify placental abruption or placenta previa. It is best to meet and consult your doctor as soon as you notice any bleeding just to be on the safer side.
- Anemia: This is a very common complication. It occurs when there is insufficient amount of blood cells circulating in the blood. Many women have experienced this complication at some point in their pregnancy. Mild cases of anemia won’t harm you but when it gets severe, then expecting women may encounter symptoms like exhaustion, fatigue, short of breath and dizziness.
- High Blood Pressure (Hypertension): High blood pressure or hypertension is another common pregnancy complication and you better be aware of it as it can lead to more serious problems like pre-eclampsia. Most of the times, this happens when you are close to your due date but it gets resolved by itself after the delivery.
- Eclampsia: This is a rare complication but a serious one. Major symptoms that you may face are seizures and coma.
There are many other complications faced by pregnant women like infections, digestive problems and joint issues. The best solutions for these complications is to take precautions from the start. Again, Nutrition During Pregnancy is very important in order to face these problems. With proper diet and a good prenatal multivitamin, you can avoid the above complications with ease. Consult your health practitioner regarding the above mentioned complications as well as about taking prenatal vitamins.

Complications $9.99 A brilliant and courageous doctor reveals, in gripping accounts of true cases, the power and limits of modern medicine. Sometimes in medicine the only way to know what is truly going on in a patient is to operate, to look inside with one’s own eyes. This book is exploratory surgery on medicine itself, laying bare a science not in its idealized form but as it actually is — complicated, perplexing, and profoundly human. Atul Gawande offers an unflinching view from the scalpel’s edge, where science is ambiguous, information is limited, the stakes are high, yet decisions must be made. In dramatic and revealing stories of patients and doctors, he explores how deadly mistakes occur and why good surgeons go bad. He also shows us what happens when medicine comes up against the inexplicable: an architect with incapacitating back pain for which there is no physical cause; a young woman with nausea that won’t go away; a television newscaster whose blushing is so severe that she cannot do her job. Gawande offers a richly detailed portrait of the people and the science, even as he tackles the paradoxes and imperfections inherent in caring for human lives. At once tough-minded and humane, Complications is a new kind of medical writing, nuanced and lucid, unafraid to confront the conflicts and uncertainties that lie at the heart of modern medicine, yet always alive to the possibilities of wisdom in this extraordinary endeavor.   Complications is a 2002 National Book Award Finalist for Nonfiction. |
